Composition # 1

The novel, "The Great Gatsby" written by F. Scott Fitzgerald was first introduced to me by my English teacher in high school. My English class was assigned to read "The Great Gatsby" to learn about the American dream. This novel is a fictional tragic love story, it also tells us about the American culture in the Jazz Age.
"The Great Gatsby" is a very interesting novel because it show’s the American society in the time of the Jazz Age were the American culture begin to change its way of life. People wanted a happy life by getting educated and being wealthy. Gatsby the main character had wealth and fame but at the ended he faces a tragedy for the woman he had loved. Gatsby has been in love with the same woman Daisy for many years, and even tried to get her back. All the characters in the novel had their own ways to show their wealth and status. The Jazz age was a really important period in American history, because women changed fashion in a new and different way, many women were able to work like man, industrialization and technology have advanced, people were able to travel faster then before, and even music had changed from classical to jazz and hip hop. In the Jazz Age there was a lot of competition among Americans because they all wanted to live a better life, just like the characters in the novel they all wanted to achieve their dreams. Gatsby was honest about his life and he knew what he wanted to in life, but the people he trust or knew were dishonest to him.
By reading this novel I realized that no matter how rich we are, it cannot buy us love, which Gatsby tried. I felt sympathy towards Gatsby because he was a lonely character. All his life he wanted to achieve his dreams of being wealthy and wanting to be with Daisy. When I think about The Great Gatsby I think about myself because I also have dreams and goals that I want to fulfill in life, just like Gatsby tried to fulfill his dreams.
